Walking
The south side of Schouwen-Duiveland is an area full of meadows and wetlands where water, meadow and migratory birds feel very much at home. It is a true boulevard for birds! From watchtowers, you can always see the redshanks, oystercatchers, curlews and geese, but who knows, you might even spot more beautiful birds through your binoculars. In short ... put on your walking shoes and discover all this beauty! These are our favourite routes (pdf) from the park. Walking maps are for sale at the reception desk.
Once upon a time Zeeland had more than one hundred different ferry boats. For the people of Zeeland this was often the only connection between their own island and the rest of the world. Most ferry services are now redundant. We now have dams, bridges and tunnels. Nevertheless, a handful of ferries are still in operation. Specially designed to take cyclists and pedestrians to the other side.
Lovely routes include:
This 6.5 kilometre walk takes you past almost century-old pines and a variety of turtle birds. Stop at the watchtower and take in the views!
Or choose this 12 kilometre walk. This route takes you through a unique and varied landscape: from the rugged dune area to the largest forest in Zeeland. Please note that this walking route is only fully accessible outside the breeding season, between 15 July and 15 March.
